Areas of Practice

Elise Zoli, chair of the firm’s Energy Practice and a member of its Environmental Practice, specializes in the areas of energy, environmental and development law.

Work for Clients

Ms. Zoli has extensive experience in the transfer, permitting and development of energy projects, particularly electric-generating and natural-gas-pipeline facilities. Recent examples of Ms. Zoli’s energy work include strategic development and acquisition advice, compliance counseling and litigation services on behalf of nuclear-powered, fossil-fuel and wind-turbine electric-generating stations, as well as strategic counseling for a leading “Green tag” provider.

Ms. Zoli also has done extensive work on the assessment and permitting of redevelopment projects involving complex sites, including former nuclear assets. Her recent representations include the redevelopment of a former Army arsenal (and Superfund site) and a large-scale former municipal landfill, as well as the permitting associated with major metropolitan commercial-development projects.

In conjunction with her development and transactional work, Ms. Zoli also has pioneered the use of environmental-insurance coverage. Her recent environmental-insurance work includes implementation of the Commonwealth-subsidized environmental-insurance program developed in conjunction with the Massachusetts Brownfields legislation.

Ms. Zoli is a member of the New York, Massachusetts and American Bar Associations, as well as the Massachusetts Women’s Bar Association. She has been selected for inclusion in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and Law Dragon, and is recognized as a Massachusetts “Super Lawyer.”

Ms. Zoli is a frequent speaker at national and Massachusetts seminars and conferences, and has authored numerous articles and publications in the areas of energy, environmental and environmental-insurance law.
