Kingsley Taft is a partner in the firm’s Life Sciences Practice and a recognized leader in the industry.


Mr. Taft represents biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device and medtech companies in all aspects of their business and legal affairs, ranging from VC financings, M&A and capital market transactions (including IPOs), to strategic alliances and collaborations. His clients span start-ups to public companies and also include VCs and other life sciences investors.

Mr. Taft often serves as outside general counsel to life science companies. In this role, he advises management and directors as these companies raise capital, in-license and acquire IP and other assets, and then partner their technology, all with a view towards growth and liquidity.

In addition, Mr. Taft has extensive life sciences partnering experience. He regularly advises on licenses, technology transfers, JVs, strategic alliances, R&D and commercialization collaborations, and royalty monetizations. Mr. Taft helps clients close deals and manage relationships with many leading pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies in North America, Europe and Asia.

Mr. Taft has a scientific background that complements his law practice. Prior to attending Harvard Law School, he obtained a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Chemistry from Yale University.


Mr. Taft frequently serves as a guest speaker at conferences and industry meetings on strategic and corporate issues affecting life sciences clients. While attending law school, he served as an Editor and then as an Executive Editor of the Harvard Law Review.


Mr. Taft is admitted to the bar of Massachusetts.


Mr. Taft has been recognized by numerous legal guides for his business work and his life sciences industry expertise. Notably, he has been listed by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business in Life Sciences: Corporate/Commercial at the national level.
