Areas of Practice

Alexis Shapiro is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department. She concentrates her practice on representing public companies, private entities, officers and directors in securities class action and shareholder litigation matters, proceedings brought by the Securities Exchange Commission, internal corporate investigations, and other high-stakes business litigation.

Work for Clients

Ms. Shapiro has represented clients in federal and state courts throughout the United States and in proceedings before the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Publications/Presentations

Ms. Shapiro has been the co-author of numerous articles and publications, including “Ever-Expanding Ways to Combat Class Certification in Securities Class Actions” (2007); “Director Best Practices After the Disney and Oracle Decisions” (May/June 2004); “Outside Directors – Increasing Scrutiny, Limited Liability: A Primer on When Securities Fraud Claims Against Outside Directors Will Be Sustained” (2003); “Protecting the Wrongly Accused: Weeding Out Meritless Securities Actions at the Class Certification Stage” (2003); “Still Refusing to Surrender: Strategies for Combating Class Certification in Securities Class Action Cases” (May 2002); and “Refusing to Surrender: Strategies for Combating Class Certification in Securities Fraud Class Actions” (2001).

While attending law school, Ms. Shapiro served as an editor of the Boston College Law Review.

Professional Experience

Prior to joining Goodwin Procter, Ms. Shapiro was an associate in the Litigation Practice Group at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault LLP in Boston. Before that, she was an associate in the New York office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom, LLP.

Bar and Court Admissions

Ms. Shapiro is admitted to the bar in Massachusetts and New York, as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First and Sixth Circuits. She has also been admitted to practice before courts in Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, New Hampshire and New Jersey.

Honors and Awards

In 2005, 2006 and 2007, Ms. Shapiro was recognized as a Massachusetts Super Lawyer “Rising Star” in the field of securities litigation by Law & Politics and Boston magazine.
