Matthew Pohlman, a partner in the firm’s Hospitality & Leisure Group, focuses on the development, operation, management, acquisition, disposition and financing of hotels, resorts and other mixed-use hospitality assets around the world. Mr. Pohlman is based in the firm's London office working for clients with interests in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas.


Mr. Pohlman regularly acts on a global basis for many of the world’s leading hotel companies. He advises clients, in close coordination with local counsel, on structuring, negotiating and documenting complex mixed-use projects with hotel, resort, branded residential, retail, spa, golf and various other components. In recent years, Mr. Pohlman has been particularly active on hotel, resort and mixed-use developments and conversions throughout Europe and the Middle East.

Mr. Pohlman also has significant experience representing institutional investors, hedge funds and real estate investment companies in the acquisition, disposition and financing of hospitality assets. He regularly navigates clients through cross-border and multi-jurisdictional hospitality transactions and the challenges and complexities presented by diverse legal systems, cultures and conventions.

Mr. Pohlman’s recent speaking engagements include:

  • Panel member for the “Conversions, Renovations and Re-branding” panel at the International Hotel Investment Forum in Berlin, Germany, March 2013;
  • Moderator for the "Maximizing Value in Hotel-Residential Developments" panel at the International Hotel Investment Forum in Berlin, Germany, March 2012; and
  • Moderator for the "Global Luxury Hotel Sector" panel at the Americas Lodging Investment Summit in Los Angeles, California, January 2012.


Mr. Pohlman was previously an associate at Heller Ehrman, where he was a member of its hospitality and real estate practices. Before that, he was a corporate associate in the Boston office of Goodwin Procter.


Mr. Pohlman is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and Washington, and is a Registered Foreign Lawyer in England and Wales.
