Sumedha Ahuja is an associate in the firm’s Litigation Department and a member of its Intellectual Property Group. She joined Goodwin Procter in 2012. Ms. Ahuja’s practice includes patent litigation in computer and electrical technologies, with particular emphasis on computer hardware, software, and business methods. Ms. Ahuja also assists clients in patent portfolio development, including patent prosecution support at all stages of prosecution, including drafting patent applications, responding to office actions, appeals to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and post-grant review proceedings such as Inter Partes Review (IPRs) and reexamination. Ms. Ahuja’s interest and experience in the financial services sector coupled with her master’s degree in computer science makes her a valuable asset for IP work in that space.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Ms. Ahuja is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. She is also a member of the American Bar Association.

Ms. Ahuja has authored an article titled “A Balanced Approach to Patent Process Outsourcing: Its Challenges and Rewards,” AIPLA Quarterly Journal Summer 2012 issue (Vol. 40, No. 3).

Ms. Ahuja is a contributor to the “Developing and Evaluating Intellectual Property Assets” chapter in Great Patents: Advanced Strategies for Innovative Growth Companies (Logo Press, 2011).

Ms. Ahuja has co-authored a variety of articles, including publications in the Intellectual Property Westlaw Journal (“PTAB Invalidates Patent in First Final Written Decision in New Inter Partes Review Proceeding”) and Law360 (“Where To Bring Process Claims: Hints From Sucralose”).

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Prior to joining Goodwin Procter, Ms. Ahuja was a senior consultant at Sapient Corporation. While at Sapient, she consulted with clients practicing in a variety of industries, such as telecommunications, financial services, debt financing, and energy, regarding software and industry best practices. She produced technical documents including software requirements and developed software code for software applications.

Ms. Ahuja has software development experience in many different programming languages including C#, ASP .NET, J2EE, Java, C, C++, Python, Javascript, HTML, CSS, PHP, PL/SQL, Visual Basic, Matlab, and Fortran.

Ms. Ahuja is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

While attending law school, Ms. Ahuja was a staff member for the AIPLA Quarterly Journal.
